Savage Island (1985)

"Savage Island" (1985), directed by Ted Nicolaou, is an exploitation film that combines elements of action, crime, and drama within a women-in-prison setting.


The story follows women who have been captured and sold as slave labor to work in a South American emerald mine. These women, under harsh conditions, hatch a plan for revolution and revenge. Linda Blair stars as Daly, a vengeful woman who, after escaping, seeks retribution against those responsible for her suffering. The film uses footage from two earlier Italian/Spanish women-in-prison films, "Escape from Hell" and "Hotel Paradise," splicing them with new scenes featuring Blair.

Linda Blair plays Daly, but her role is limited to the bookends of the film, providing narration and a brief appearance. Other notable actors include Anthony Steffen, Ajita Wilson, Cristina Lay, and Leon Askin. The performances are generally seen as fitting for the genre, though the film's choppy nature due to its editing from pre-existing content detracts from any real character development.
