"Mujeres de media noche" (1990), directed by Christian González, is a Mexican film that blends comedy and horror genres.
The movie opens with a chilling scene where a serial killer, known as "El descuartizador" (The Ripper), brutally murders a prostitute. The narrative then shifts to focus on Anacleto Delgadillo, played by Roberto 'Flaco' Guzmán, who works at an antique store. Anacleto is characterized by his humorous, streetwise nature and becomes inadvertently involved in the serial killer's activities when he receives a telescope meant for his boss. He and his friend Leandro use the telescope to spy on women across the street, leading to humorous exchanges, particularly with Leandro's wife. Amidst the comedy, the film intersperses scenes of the killer's continued spree, contrasting the light-hearted moments with darker undertones.
Roberto 'Flaco' Guzmán delivers a performance typical of his roles during this era, playing a likable, somewhat naive character who gets entangled in bizarre situations. His chemistry with co-star César Bono adds to the film's lighter moments. However, the villainous role of "El descuartizador" by Roberto Ballesteros is less explored, serving more as a plot device than a fully developed character.
