Humongous (1982)

"Humongous" (1982), directed by Paul Lynch, is a Canadian horror film that has garnered mixed reviews over the years, often remembered for its place in the slasher genre of the early 1980s.


The story begins with a traumatic event in 1946 where Ida Parsons is raped at a party on an island. Her assailant is killed by her dogs, and she gives birth to a monstrous child she raises in isolation. Fast forward to 1982, a group of young adults, including siblings Eric and Nick, their girlfriends Sandy and Donna, and sister Carla, are on a yacht trip that leads them to shipwreck on Dog Island, where they encounter the now fully grown, monstrous offspring of Ida, engaging in a deadly game of cat and mouse.

The film stars Janet Julian, John Wildman, David Wallace, and Janit Baldwin. Performances are generally seen as typical for the slasher genre of the time, with Janet Julian's role as the final girl Sandy being the most noted.
